Lawn and Garden Products

Our new Wildflower Mixes offer blends for every gardener's needs and growing conditions. Each mix features a combination of perennials and annuals.

Mills Bros. uses a walnut shell carrier to improve even seed coverage. Walnut shell will also protect seeds during germination and breaks down quickly to be more beneficial to soil than paper or wood fibers as organic matter. There are no added coloring agents or dyes that might leach through the soil onto walkways, sidewalks or streets.

The seeds are available in three sizes: Coverage for 40 square feet, 250 square feet and 1000 square feet

Current varieties include:

  • Cut Flower Mix
  • Low Growing Mix
  • Partial Shade Mix
  • Dryland Seeds Mix
  • Hummingbird & Butterfly Mix

Wildflower Gardening Tip:

  • All Mills Bros. Wildflower Mixes can be planted in spring for summer blooms.
  • The Low Growing, Partial Shade, and Hummingbird & Butterfly Mixes can also be planted in late fall.

Planting Instructions:

  1. Best Time to Plant—Early Spring is the best time to plant the Wildflower seeds. Early Fall is acceptable as well. Planting in early spring after the last frost is the optimal planting time frame.
  2. Select the proper Site—For best results; plant the wildflower seeds in a location that receives 4-6 hours of sunlight. If the planting area has been used as a garden in the past, establishment will be easier. Try to avoid excessively wet or low lying areas.
  3. Prepare & Maintain the Site—Remove weeds and clear the area for planting. If tilling is required, make sure the top 1"-2" is tilled. Avoid tilling too deep as it will disturb weed seeds. This procedure should be done a couple of times throughout the season.
  4. Planting the Wildflower Seeds—Distribute the seed evenly over the desired site. After application, lightly rake seed into the soil. Do not seed deeper than 1/8 to 1/2" deep.
  5. KEEP the AREA MOIST—The key to a successful wildflower bed is keeping the area watered allowing proper germination. If rainfall is not sufficient, keep the site moist but not WET. A fine mist is best to avoid movement of the seed.
  6. BE Patient—Annuals will bloom in one season but Perennials can take up to two years to bloom.
